July – Night Shift On The Greens – 2025

Good evening… or should I say good morning?

This photo pretty much sums up what July has been like. Evapotranspiration rates have been through the roof, and with no automatic irrigation system, the only way to keep the greens alive is to water them when the demand is lowest — in the middle of the night. So here I am starting at 9pm still here at 3am, torch on, hose in hand, making sure every drop actually gets into the profile rather than evaporating before it even lands.

The good news is that the renovations went smoothly, and the greens are starting to respond. We’ve applied a granular feed, a wetting agent to keep the moisture moving, and seaweed to help kick-start root recovery. After the stress of June’s drought, the turf is finally heading in the right direction again.

It’s not glamorous, and the hours can be questionable… but getting the greens through conditions like this is part of the job — and honestly, it’s all worth it when you start to see the recovery coming through.
