This month we’ve finally been able to get stuck into aerating other areas away from greens such as the tees, surrounds and fairways — something we haven’t done for a while. You can see in the photo just how much action is going on, and it’s the first step in what we’re planning to make a regular part of our maintenance routine.
Aeration is about more than just holes in the ground. It’s the foundation of healthy, resilient turf. By relieving compaction, improving water and nutrient movement, and encouraging deep, strong root growth, we’re setting the tees, surrounds and fairways up to cope better with traffic, seasonal stress, and the changing weather.
From now on, aeration will be a twice-yearly fixture — building a strong cultural practice that will keep the turf performing at its best all year round. Players might notice some surface disruption immediately after the work, but this is normal and short-lived. Over the weeks that follow, the benefits become clear: faster infiltration, stronger turf, and improved consistency across the course.
It’s all part of laying the groundwork — quite literally — for better, healthier playing surfaces in the seasons ahead.
